West London Partnership sustainability in the curriculum twilight INSET

West London Partnership sustainability in the curriculum twilight INSET

When: Wednesday 22 June 430-6pm

How: Online via Zoom

What: This session, led by the Head of Sustainability at St Paul’s Girls’ School, will cover what we mean by ‘sustainability’, why it is relevant to schools, and developments in climate and sustainability education in the UK (including the recently published Department for Education Sustainability and climate change strategy. We will then look at ways of embedding sustainability in the curriculum, whatever the subject (this is not just for geography and science!). Note the focus is on environmental education rather than on delivery of lessons or sustainability in school operations so it is aimed at teaching staff. During the session attendees will have the opportunity to discuss ideas with those from other schools and look at their existing Schemes of Work to see what might be possible in a meaningful yet practical way. If time, we will also explore what can be done in the co-curriculum to bring in more sustainability, nature and environment.

Who: Open to school sustainability/eco leads and/or up to 10 staff from across subjects/faculties per school.

Bring: Please have to hand (printed or digital) some real-life Schemes of Work during the session.
