The SPGS Maths Society is holding two talks in the first half of the summer term:
Thinking like a Researcher: A Masterclass on Vectors
Wednesday 30 April
4.15pm – 5.30pm
&
Colouring Maps & Graphs
The famous “four colour theorem” asserts that it’s possible to colour the countries of the globe, or any other map, using only four colours, so that any neighbouring countries are assigned different colours. We’ll discuss the background to this problem and the history of its solution, as well as some related problems about graphs and graph colourings. The audience may be surprised to see how much probability theory is used in these problems!
Wednesday 7th May
4,15pm – 5.30pm
